Chevy Camaro and Hot Wheels: Name a more iconic duo. We’ll wait.
The first-gen Camaro hit the streets in 1967. No more than a year later, Mattel introduced their blockbusting line of ultra-fast toy cars. The first Hot Wheels car released? A ’68 Camaro, naturally. For fifty years, Camaro and Hot Wheels have been the dream team. In 2018, it’ll get even better.
Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition
Announced at this year’s SEMA convention: the Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition: It’s going to throw you for a loop.
This Camaro is done-up in a special tone of orange called “Crush.” It resembles the color of those plastic tracks we all played with as kids (and some of us probably still do). That screaming orange hue covers not only the body panels, but also upholstery inserts, seat belts, and brake rotors. Chevy’s gone all-out on this $4,995 appearance-only package, with dark tail lamps, Satin Graphite stripes, 20″ alloy wheels, and even a blacked-out bowtie.
Hot Wheels are even hotter when full-scale.
Don’t be fooled by the toy-car emblems: Under the snazzy surface lurks a serious performance beast.
The Hot Wheels package can be ordered on any 2LT or 2SS coupe or convertible. Chevy’s great array of powertrains are available on the two models — from the 2.0L turbocharged Ecotec up to the fire-breathing 6.2L V8 in the 2SS. Both 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic transmissions are available.
The most stunning news of all: The Hot Wheels package can even be added to the COPO track-only drag-racing edition. That’s bound to make some dreams come true.
